No, sorry I should have said, the sampler above is on B.F. Deal, titled "B.F. Deal Sampler Vol. 1." I don't think there was a Vol. 2. The "Through The Dark Nightly" album is on Fair Retail Records. A reference I think to Anderson Fair the legendary folk club in Houston. I think they must have put that album out.

Yes, you're right, of course. I had forgotten about Nanci's albums. I just looked and I have a copy of the vinyl release of "Poet In My Window" on Featherbed. And speaking of B.F. Deal, I also have a vinyl sampler from 1977 with three songs by Nanci, three by Frank Zigal, three by John Garza and three by Will Walker. I don't know for sure but I don't think the three Nanci songs ("Texas Boy," "If I Were A Child" and "Double-Standard Blues") have ever appeared anywhere else. Now, as you know, I'm pretty big on Texas music and consider myself very knowledgeable, but I've never heard anything more about the three other songwriters on this sampler. It's very rare, I've never seen or heard of another copy, though I'm sure some other folks have it as well.

Hi Steve,

About Featherbed Records:

Nanci's first full-length album, recorded in Austin in 1978, was originally released on vinyl on the small local B. F. Deal label. When B. F. Deal Records folded a couple of years later, the album was re-released on vinyl with a new cover by Featherbed Records, the label that also released Poet In My Window. When Nanci was picked up by Philo/Rounder Records a few years after that, the album was re-released yet again with a third cover. Philo/Rounder released the album on vinyl, cassette and CD.

A beautifully-remastered CD edition of the album was re-released by Rounder in 2002, and this is the only version that is currently in print. When buying this CD used, it would be worth your time to make sure you're getting the 2002 remastered version, not the 1986 version, because the 2002 remaster sounds much better!
